Indian Green Jade [also known as Aventurine] ** Strung in a thread with knots in between ** 108+1 Beads ** Bead Size: 7 mm [approx.] ** Mala Length: 42 cm [approx.] ** "Jade is an ornamental stone. The term jade is applied to two different metamorphic rocks that are made up of different silicate minerals: * Nephrite jade, consists of a microcrystaline interlocking fibrous matrix of the calcium, magnesium-iron rich amphibole mineral series tremolite (calcium-magnesium) - ferroactinolite (Calcium - Magnesium - Iron). The middle member of this series with an intermediate composition is called actinolite (the silky fibrous mineral form is one form of asbestos). The higher the iron content the greener the color. * Jadeite, a rock consisting almost entirely of jadeite, a sodium- and aluminum-rich pyroxene. The gem form of the mineral is a microcrystaline interlocking crystal matrix. The English word jade is derived from the Spanish term piedra de ijada or loin stone, from its reputed efficacy in curing ailments of the loins and kidneys." - Source: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jade

"A gemstone or gem (also called a precious or semi-precious stone, a fine gem, or jewel) is a piece of mineral, which, in cut and polished form, is used to make jewelry or other adornments. However certain rocks, (such as lapis lazuli) and organic materials (such as amber or jet) are not minerals, but are still used for jewelry, and are therefore often considered to be gemstones as well. Most gemstones are hard, but some soft minerals are used in jewelry because of their lustre or other physical properties that have aesthetic value. Rarity is another characteristic that lends value to a gemstone." - Source: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gemstone
